GALION — The 112th Sherer Family Reunion was Aug. 13 at the Christian Life Center at Galion Grace Point Church. Thirty-one people were present.

Mark Whiteamire gave the opening prayer, which was followed by a potluck dinner. Whiteamire then held the business meeting and the treasurer’s report by Lon Leapley and the secretary’s report by Katie Leapley. Nominations for next year’s officers were taken and approved. They are president, Whiteamire; secretary, Katie Leapley; treasurer, Lon Leapley; and corresponding secretary Larry Sherer.

Larry Sherer led a discussion about whether to continue the reunion due to low attendance and donations. It was decided to keep having the reunion as long as funding and attendance justify it. A decision also was made to send reunion announcements to family members living in Ohio, only.

Prizes were awarded to: Oldest person, Christine Cook, 99; Oldest man, Lon Leapley, 83; Youngest girl, Kelly Barnett, 29; Youngest boy, Carter Barnett, 2; Oldest military veteran, Gary Prushing, 70; Longest married, Lon and Katie Leapley, 50 years; Traveled farthest, Larry Sherer, 125 miles.

The birth of Kenton McElhatten on Feb. 27, 2017 was noted, as was the death of Marge Gledhill on Dec. 16, 2017.

The revolving attendance trophy went to Christine Cook’s family, with nine members present.

The reunion was dedicated to Marge Gledhill, who was 91 when she died last year.

Next year’s reunion will be Aug. 12 at the Christian Life Center at Galion Grace Point Church.
