ONTARIO — The Galion Tigers golfers headed to Twin Lakes on Monday to meet up for a highly anticipated dual with the hosting Ontario Warriors.

It was the Tigers that would take home the victory and advance to 13-0 after defeating the Warriors; 150-152. With the loss, Ontario now sits at 11-2 and are currently in second place behind the Galion squad in the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference.

“What a HUGE victory for this program! To be able to defeat Ontario on their home course is certainly making a statement,” says Galion coach Bryce Lehman. “Ontario doesn’t lose at Twin Lakes but these six young men of mine were extremely focused tonight. It started on the bus ride over. Normally they are talking and joking around but tonight it was different,” continued the Tigers’ coach.

Leading the way for the Tigers in Ontario was Matthew McMullen. McMullen fired a 36 on the afternoon with Jack McElligott and Mitch Dyer right behind him, shooting a 37 each. Spencer Keller turned in a 40 on the day to round out the Galion scoring. Matt Kingseed and Kaleb Harsh fired a 43 and a 45, respectively.

For Ontario, Marc Wilkins, Jr. was the medalist on the day, shooting a 34. Dominic Castelvetere shot a 38 while teammates Lane Thomas and Jake Gleason turned in a 40 each. Bailey Hall shot a 47 and Carter Kroll a 50.

Galion will host the Pleasant Spartans for their final match of the regular season on Wednesday, September 20 at Sycamore Creek. On Thursday, the Tigers will head to Apple Valley in Howard to compete in the MOAC Tournament.
