Galion spikers knock off Clear Fork in MOAC action

GALION — Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference action continued Tuesday for Galion as they beat new league foe Clear Fork 25-18, 25-20 and 25-21.

With the victory, Galion improves to 5-1 on the season and 4-0 in MOAC play. Clear Fork drops to 3-6 and 0-3.

In the first set, Galion took control from the opening serve and never trailed, despite Clear Fork rallying to tie the score three times.

The Colts got their first lead of the day when they went up 15-14 in Game 2. But Galion rallied to lead 16-15 and finally won, 25-20.

The end of Game 2 and Game 3 saw a total of 14 ties, with the Lady Colts taking the lead five times. But Galion came out on top, 25-21, thanks to clutch serving, big blocks, and nasty spikes courtesy of Samantha Comer and Marisa Gwinner.

As a team the Lady Tigers were 58/66 on the serve, netting 39 points and 10 aces. Kayla Hardy was a perfect 11/11 from the line with seven points and two aces. Abby Foust was 14/16 with 10 points and four aces.

Also for Galion: Kasidee Sinclair, back from an injury- 11/12, 9 points, ace; Nicole Thomas- 9/11, 7 points, ace; Gwinner- 8/10, 5 points, 2 aces and Jaden Ivy- 5/6, point.

The Tigers also had a strong night attacking the net. Gwinner threw down 13 kills, while Comer contributed nine. Ivy notched eight kills and Gillian Miller had five. Hardy and Sinclair also had kills. As a team, the Lady Tigers were 73/88 on the attack with 37 kills.

Hardy was the primary ball handler for the home team. Galion was 118/122 handling with 35 assists. Hardy was 92/95 with 32 assists. Ivy was 8/8 with two assists and Kate Schieber was 5/5 with an assist.

Defensively, the Lady Tigers had five blocks and 64 digs. Gwinner had three blocks and nine digs. Comer and Miller each chimed in with a block at the net, and two and one digs, respectively. Hardy had a block assist and seven digs.

Also: Ivy had 14 digs; Thomas 14 digs; Foust had 8 digs; Sinclair nad 7 digs and Schieber had two.

On Thursday, the Lady Tigers are in Richwood to take on North Union The next home contest for Galion is Monday, Sept. 11 vs. Upper Sandusky.

The Lady Colts are at home Thursday against Ontario. Clear Fork is at North Union on Saturday and Pleasant on Tuesday, Sept. 12.
