GALION — For the second time in two days, the Galion Tigers golf team won a tournament title. This time it was at Sycamore Creek Golf Course in the Galion Invitational.

Galion has now won the invite two years in a row after beating Clear Fork Wednesday; 325-357. Other team scores were: 3. Upper Sandusky- 367; 4. Highland- 368; 5. Madison- 371; 6. Mansfield Senior- 398; 7. Cardington- 407 and 8. Bucyrus- 444.

Galion freshman Matthew McMullen finished with the lowest score on the team, firing a 73 on the day. McMullen also was the top overall finisher for the invite after securing the medal in a one-hole playoff.

Galion’s Jack McElligott finished the day six strokes behind McMullen, with a 79. Another freshman, Spencer Keller was third on the squad with an 82. Rounding out the Galion scoring were: Mitch Dyer (91), Kaleb Harsh (97) and Matt Kingseed (98).

“It was a very good day overall,” head coach Bryce Lehman said. “Winning our invitational two years in a row is a bonus. I am very pleased the way Matty (McMullen) played today and by earning medalist honors in a one-hole playoff was even better.

“He proved to me today, that even as a freshman, he can handle the pressure. He played very steady and helped us pull out the victory.”

Galion is at Deer Ridge Golf Club in Bellville today for the annual Colt Classic (Clear Fork Invitational).

The Tigers will be back in action on Monday, Aug. 14 at The Golf Club of Bucyrus for the Bucyrus Elks Invite. The following day, Galion kicks off its Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference schedule when they welcome the River Valley Vikings to the Sycamore Creek Golf Course.
