Two from Cardington die in Friday truck/motorcycle crash


MAR ION — A 35-year-old Cardington man and a 52-year-old Cardington woman died Friday afternoon in a truck/motorcycle crash on Ohio 598 in Claridon Township in Marion County.

According to troopers from the Marion post of the Ohio Highway Patrol Justin, Woodard, 35, was driving a 2015 Harley Davidson motorcyycle with a passenger, Lori Cassady, 52. David Beatty, 83, also of Cardington, was eastbound on Patton Pike Road when he failed to stop at the intersection of Ohio 98. Woodward, traveling south on Ohio 98, was unable to stop in time and collided with Beatty’s 2001 Dodge Ram.

Woodard and Cassady were thrown from the bike. Woodard died at the scene. Cassady died while being taken to Marion General Hospital.

Beatty was taken was taken by MedFlight to the Ohio State University Medical Center. He has since been released.

The investigation is continuing.
