One more Tiger punches ticket to regional track meet

OAK HARBOR — During day two of the Division II Northwest District track and field competition, the Galion Tigers boys squad took to event qualifying and field events.

After seeing success from the girls squad on Tuesday, the Galion boys have one regional qualifier and seven finals qualifiers.

Four events were scored on Wednesday and the Tigers earned at least a point in three of those events. Zhamir Anderson jumped a distance of 20 feet, 11.5 inches in the long jump to earn a fourth-place finish and a punched ticket to the regional meet in Lexington.

Galion also earned a pair of eighth place finishes on the day. Kelby Knight cleared 11-feet, 6 inches in the pole vault and Brett May threw 129 feet, 6 inches in the discus to earn a point.

Joining the girls that advanced to finals competition on Friday were three relay teams and three individuals.

In the 4×100-meter relay, the foursome of Evan Barker, Anderson, Caleb Ivy and Takoda Crisman qualified for finals with the fifth fastest time of the group. Caleb Ivy, Takoda Crisman, Harrison Ivy and Colin McCullough had the fastest qualifying time in the 4×200, finishing in 1:30.41. Takoda, Harrison and Colin were joined by Colbey Fox in the 4×400 relay and also finished with the fastest time, crossing the finish line in 44.96.

Takoda Crisman will also be in the 100-meter dash finals on Friday after earning the final qualifying spot with a time of 11.87. Harrison Ivy had the fastest qualifying time in the 400-meter dash, finishing in 50.77. McCullough qualified in first in the 110-meter high hurdles (15.42) and second in the 300-hurdles (41.31).

Galion’s track squads will be competing starting at 4 pm on Friday in Oak Harbor. The goal? Finish in one of the top four spots and earn a trip to Lexington High School for regionals competition next Thursday, May 25 and Saturday, May 27.
