WESTERVILLE — The 2016-2017 boys basketball season is one for the record books for the Northmor Golden Knights. Northmor won a share of the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference Blue Division title, their first ever. The Knights also won their first sectional championship since 1992 last Saturday against the Bishop Ready Silver Knights.

Northmor traveled to Westerville Central High School on Tuesday night as the No. 4 seeded team in the Division III Columbus district bracket. The only thing standing in their way of playing for a district title was the No. 2 seeded Columbus Academy Vikings. Unfortunately for the Knights, that’s where their postseason run would conclude as the Vikings defeated Northmor by a final score of 59-50.

The first quarter was dominated by Northmor for the first six minutes of the eight minute frame but it would be Columbus Academy taking the 13-10 advantage into the second quarter of play. The Knights bounced back with a 14-point quarter while holding the Vikings to 10 points. Heading into intermission, Northmor had the slim, one-point lead at 24-23. Academy would tighten up their play, holding the Knights to just eight points to start the second half while tacking on an additional 14 of their own to head into the fourth ahead, 37-32. With the season hanging in the balance, the scoring took a hike upward as Northmor put in 18 points but would come up short as the Vikings scored 22 points in the final eight minutes to secure the district final berth.

Brock Pletcher was the Knights’ top scorer on Tuesday, pouring in 20 points to go with three rebounds, three assists and the teams sole block. Tyler Kegley was the only other Northmor hoopster to score in double figures. Kegley contributed 10 points on the night, as well as three rebounds, two assists and a steal. Kyle Kegley finished the contest with eight points, four rebounds and an assist. Meechie Johnson had six points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals for the Knights. Zach Parrott and Alijah Keen played their final games in a Northmor uniform against Columbus Academy. Parrott chipped in four points, three rebounds, an assist and a steal while Keen finished with two points, a rebound and two assists.

Northmor stat line: 23/44 (52%) total field goals; 21/31 (68%) from two-point range and 2/13 (15%) from three-point range; 2/9 (22%) from the free-throw line; 22 rebounds, 13 assists, four steals, a block and 10 turnovers.

The Vikings would have four players finish with double-digit scoring figures. Chris Boyle was the top scorer on the evening with 16 points. Ryan Alexander had 13 points, Nick Stringer finished with 11 points and Addis Boyd contributed 10 points in the victory.

Columbus Academy stat line: 21/46 (45%) total field goals; 18/38 (47%) from two-point range and 3/8 (37%) from three-point range; 14/22 (63%) from the free-throw line; 30 rebounds, nine assists, eight steals, three blocks and seven turnovers.

Columbus Academy will now face the No. 1 seeded Worthington Christian Warriors in the district finals matchup on Friday March 10 at Ohio Dominican University. Tipoff time is set for 7 pm.
