BUCYRUS— The Bucyrus City School District Board of Education held its annual organizational meeting and regular monthly meeting Monday. During the organizational meeting, Mr. Bradley Murtiff was selected to continue as board president, while Dr. Paul Johnson was selected to serve as vice president during the 2017 calendar year.

After approving all required items during the organizational meeting, the board immediately proceeded to the regular meeting agenda for January, which began with each board member receiving a Certificate of Recognition from the Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA) for their service to the district and Bucyrus community as part of School Board Recognition Month.

“Our district is fortunate to have a tremendous board of education that works diligently to create the educational vision we want for our students,” said Superintendent Kevin Kimmel. “On behalf of the students, staff, and community, I want to thank each board member for their effort and dedication in providing high quality leadership for our schools.”

Following the presentation, the board approved all items as presented in the agenda. The members then held a discussion about calendar for the 2017-2018 school year. While the item was not immediately approved by the board, it will be on the agenda for the regular meeting in February.

“Our staff did a great job working with our administrators to develop next year’s school calendar,” said Kimmel. “I want to thank the staff for making this a smooth process.”

The next regular meeting of the school board is at 7 p.m. in the Lincoln Administrative Center board room Thursday, Feb. 23.
