Weekend fun kicks off in a blaze of glory

GALION — Galion High School’s Connections Weekend started in a blaze of glory Thursday night with a bonfire behind the stadium in Heise Park.

But that’s only the start of the weekend’s activities that have been revamped a little to included a lot more participation by Galion students, who will be involved in pretty much every aspect of Connections Weekend.

They were involved at the bonfire, they will be involved with meeting at greeting guests at today’s career day at the middle school, they will be serving or greeting or both at Saturday’s pancake breakfast and at Saturday evening’s hall of fame dinner and induction program.

Tonight, the 2016 Galion Homecoming Queen will be announced prior to kickoff of the varsity football game against Fairbanks. The Galion Alumni Band will perform with the Tiger Marching Band during halftime, and alumni cheerleaders will be cheering on the Tigers with the varsity cheerleading squad.

The 2016 class of hall of fame inductees include : Gail Dull (Class of 1903), William R. Durtschi (Class of 1940), Kevin D. Arnold (Class of 1975), Scott Palmer (Class of 1981), Ricky L. Jobe (Class of 1982), Jim Wegesin (Educator). The dinner begins at 6 p.m. Saturday in the cafetorium at Galion Middle School

The big weekend will conclude Saturday with the annual homecoming dance at the high school.
