7/14/2015 – A Mt. Gilead business was robbed Monday evening shortly before 8 pm, prompting a manhunt that encompassed a large area that included Lee and Douglas Streets.

Mt. Gilead Police Chief Brian Zerman issued a press release at noon on Tuesday, stating the the Family Dollar Store in at 680 West Marion Road was robbed at gunpoint at approximately 7:45 pm. The suspect is described as a black male, 25-30 years old, 5’05” – 5’08” with a medium build, close waves with a part/line shaved into the middle. Witnesses stated he was wearing khaki shorts, a black hoodie, sunglasses, and “fuzzy” gloves.

The suspect walked behind the register and held a gun to the clerk’s head, demanding the cash drawer. The clerk complied and the suspect fled with the entire drawer.

A black hoodie was found near a wooded area behind the store. Subsequent tracks by police K9s were unable to locate the suspect.

One of the store employees on duty at the time posted on a Facebook page that she and her coworker were ‘very shaken up’ but still ‘loves where she works.’ She expressed much appreciation to Mt. Gilead PD, Sheriff’s Deputies and EMS for their ‘quick response and support.’

The Mount Gilead Police Department was assisted on the scene by the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office and the Delaware County Sheriffs Office.
