Minor collision slows traffic on Portland Way N

A two-car fender bender slowed traffic on Portland Way North Monday afternoon.

Before 1:53 p.m., a 19-year-old driver from the Mansfield area was distracted by looking down at his phone before hitting the car in front of him before the Heise Park Lane intersection, according to Galion police.

The minor collision slowed traffic, causing some cars to turn around. As emergency vehicles moved, vehicles were able to get around.

The driver was cited for not having enough short clear distance between him and the other car. No injuries were reported, but police said the other driver was pregnant and, therefore, paramedics were summoned as a precaution.

Police were waiting for a tow truck to take the cited driver’s car, which lost a windshield after dual airbags deployed. He was the only passenger in the car.

The other driver was allowed to drive her car.
