Books and Brunch Book Club May Meeting

Come to Books and Brunch at the Bucyrus Public Library from 10 a.m. to noon on Friday. This read-what-you-like book club meets in the mornings to discuss different books members have read during the previous month. If a designated monthly book doesn’t fit your style, this easygoing book club might fit the bill.

Discuss easy reads or tackle this year’s Pulitzer Prize winners. This program is free and open to the public—new members are always welcome. For more information, visit the circulation desk or call 419-562-7327, ext. 100.

Local Author to Visit Bucyrus Public Library

Sandi Latimer, author and former Crawford County resident, will visit the Bucyrus Public Library from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Latimer started her career at the Telegraph-Forum before attending Kent State University for journalism. After graduation, Latimer interned at WBCO radio station, also in Bucyrus. After relocating to Columbus, Latimer began writing for The Columbus Messenger, a local weekly newspaper. Many of her stories for the Messenger have won awards through the Ohio Professional Writers/National Federation of Press Women.

Latimer and her husband, Red, raised poodles for 27 years which resulted in her first work of creative writing, Poodle Mistress. Her second book, Newsroom Buddies, details her time spent collaborating with John Kady at United Press International. Both books received an Editor’s Choice award for quality of writing. Newsroom Buddies also received honors at the 2015 Creative Arts Event in Columbus.

Most recently, Latimer was highlighted as a featured author for Author Solutions at the 2016 Los Angeles Times Festival of Books.

Photoshop Elements Classes at Bucyrus Public Library

Visit the Bucyrus Public Library on Saturdays in May for a four-week course on Adobe Photoshop Elements 14. Photoshop Elements in a powerful photo editing software. The Bucyrus Public Library, partnering with the Crawford County Arts Council, is offering these free classes on May 7, 14, 21 and 28. Classes will be held from noon to 2 p.m. at the library.

Marcheta Gibson will be leading the class. There is no charge, but signup is requested. Each student should come prepared with a copy of Photoshop Elements 14 on a laptop computer. Special note: Adobe offers a free 14-day trial download of Elements. Students can test the software before investing. Other free trials are available for older versions of Photoshop, though some features may not be available. Students who have a desk computer are welcome to sit in on these classes. Class limited to 10 people.
