The Humane Society Serving Crawford County is gearing up for the eighth annual “Puttin on the Dog” Charity Auction that is one of several fundraisers for the agency throughout the year.

“The Humane Society Serving Crawford County is a self-funded, private organization. We do not get funding from The Humane Society of the United States or from federal, state, or local taxes,” said the agency’s director, Victoria Carmean. “The fundraisers we hold throughout the year are what keeps our doors open and the lights on.”

The shelter also offers a Bingo session every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Crawford County Conservation League along with other fundraisers that keep the shelter operating.

This year’s Puttin on the Dog will be held on May 6 at Dillinger’s Event Center at 144 Washington Square in Bucyrus. Doors open at 6 p.m. with a pizza and wing buffet, followed by a charity auction at 7:30 p.m. The evening finishes off with the Cellar Dwellers in concert from 8:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. Tickets are $10 and are available at the Humane Society or at the door.

“The money we clear from our fundraisers goes directly to the pets that we give aid and comfort to throughout the year,” Carmean said. “Please plan on coming out for some good food, great auction items and a fantastic band.”

The event is sponsored by United Bank, Donley Ford of Galion and The Timken Company. Some of the auction items include passes to the Columbus Zoo and Monsoon Lagoon.

The shelter, located at 3590 Ohio 98, is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. The shelter is closed on Wednesday and Sunday.
