Preliminary plans for a hotel that is slated to be constructed at the corner of Brandt Road and Ohio 598 were approved on Friday by the city’s planning commission.

According to city law director Thomas Palmer, the approval is just one step in many.

“Now details are being worked out for the final plat application which will then need the approval of the planning commission,” said Palmer on Tuesday.

The planning commission is chaired by Sharon Baldinger and other members include Mayor Tom O’Leary and Eric Kent.

A second meeting was scheduled for Friday during Thursday’s meeting to give Baldinger and Kent time to look over the preliminary plans before voting to approve them.

Palmer said there is a sense of urgency in completing all of the necessary paperwork so that construction can begin on the infrastructure for the hotel and the creation of a new street, Keller Drive, which will allow access to the hotel.

“In any construction project, there are timelines to be met since the construction company has other projects going on in other places at the same time,” Palmer said.

According to Matt Echelberry, communications director for the city, the owner of the hotel, is the Lieben Group, LP, while the operator and developer of the soon to be Sleep Inn is Winesburg Builders.

Palmer said the next meeting of the planning commission has not yet been scheduled.
