Victim in Wednesday night shooting in stable condition

At approximately 9 o’clock on Wednesday evening, John Butler — suspect in the shooting of 60-year-old Arthur Breault — turned himself into authorities of the Loudonville Police Department. Breault is listed in stable condition at the Grand Medical Center in Clolumbus.

Detectives from the Galion Police Department traveled to Loudonville to speak with Butler. Butler was incarcerated at the Ashland County Jail where he is being held on the charge of Attempted Murder.

The Galion Police Department is working in conjunction with the Crawford County Prosecutor’s Office with formal charges pending.

Butler, age 59 of Loudonville, on the evening before the Thanksgiving holiday came to hte apartment belonging to his estranged wife, Mary, and at approximately 3:30 p.m. allegedly shot Breault.

The shooting occured in Galion at apartments located at Sixth Avenue and McClure Street. Butler is said to have fled the scene, and the victim, after having received three gunshot wounds, was transported to Galion Community Hospital.

According to Galion Police Chief Brian Saterfield a search of the area was conducted and an alert to area law enforcement that an armed suspect was then at large. At approximately 5 p.m. hospital officials self-initiated a lockdown procedure due to the suspect still being sought at that time.
