Local gymnast places at YMCA Nationals

A local student recently found success at the YMCA National Gymnastics Championship and Invitational held in June at the Greater Cincinnati YMCA. Colonel Crawford student Ariah Ingersoll finished in fourth place in the 9-12 age division.

Major League Baseball recently announced the All-Star teams for the mid-summer classic that will takes place on July 11 in Seattle. Both the Cleveland Guardians and Cincinnati Reds will be represented in the game.

Palou tops at Mid-Ohio

Alex Palou claimed his third straight victory in IndyCar Sunday afternoon at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, leading 48 of the Honda Indy 200’s 80 laps in the process. It was his first career win at Mid-Ohio after finishing second last year, third in 2021 and 12th and 23rd in a pair of 2020 races.

Fall baseball league to begin in August

Galion will kick off its fall baseball league for boys entering grades 9-12 on Aug. 27. The league will come to a stop on Oct. 8, with no games being played on Labor Day weekend. Registration is now open for area high school players and will continue until Aug. 4 when fees and applications are due.

HOJGA: Keller wins at Blues Creek

MARYSVILLE — The fourth tournament of the Heart of Ohio Junior Golf season took place on June 26 at Blues Creek Golf Course. Galion’s Logan Keller won the 16-18 division with a score of 74. A couple of other Tigers placed well, too.

Mayfly hatch disrupts fishing

I have spent a lot of time in the last month up at Lake Erie doing a lot of fishing. The action has been good with all three species, walleye, largemouth bass, and smallmouth bass but it recently came to almost a standstill for several days. The culprit? The hatch of the mayflies.
