Tennis squad drops first 3 matches

The Tigers dropped their first three matches of the season, falling on the road against Mansfield St. Peter and Madison followed up by a defeat to Clear Fork at Heise Park.

In the opener on March 31, the Orange-and-Blue were bested by the Spartans, 4-1. Galion’s lone point came via the second doubles team of Alex Barker and Nic Oehler who scored a 6-1, 7-5 triumph.

Sam Maddox lost 6-1, 6-1 in first singles; JD Smith was downed 6-2, 6-1 in second singles; Caleb Ivy fell 6-2, 6-0 in third singles; and the first doubles duo of Will Starr and Fan Van Vliet lost 6-1, 6-1.

Madison outscored the locals, 4-1. Again, it was Barker and Oehler scoring for the good guys in second doubles, 6-1, 6-4.

Maddox was topped 6-1, 6-1 in first singles; Smith lost a 7-6, 6-1 match in second singles; Starr was decisioned 6-3, 6-2 in third singles; and Ivy and Van Vliet were defeated 2-6, 6-4, 3-6 in first doubles.

In the home match versus Clear Fork, the Orange-and-Blue lost, 3-2.

Maddox scored a 6-4, 7-6 (tiebreaker) win in first singles; and Ivy triumphed 6-4, 6-3 in third singles.

Losing were: Smith, 6-1, 6-0 in second singles; Starr and Van Vliet by a 6-0, 6-2 margin in first doubles; and Baker and Oehler 6-2, 6-1 in second doubles.
